Watch Glass Animals cover Destiny’s Child’s ‘Say My Name’

Glass Animals have covered Destiny’s Child‘s ‘Say My Name’ during an appearance on triple j’s Like a Version segment, while in Australia for the Splendour in the Grass festival.
The band’s rendition transforms the 1999 R&B hit into a blissed-out nu-raver. Foregrounded by crisp electronic drums, high basslines and woozy synths, frontman Dave Bayley delivers Beyoncé‘s iconic verses, his vocals manipulated and pitch-shifted underneath.
The band also played an emotive, stripped-down version of their ‘Dreamland’ favourite ‘Heat Waves’ – which topped triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2020 countdown – with Bayley accompanied solely by guitarist Drew MacFarlane. Watch both performances below:
Glass Animals aren’t the only UK act to have shared their take on a song for triple j’s Like a Version in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Wet Leg performed a cover of ‘Smoko’ by Australian punks The Chats while appearing on the segment.
During their appearance, the band’s Rhian Teasdale even donned a pair of speed dealer sunglasses, a la Chats frontman Eamon Sandwith. “The Chats are a beacon of joy and fun and not being too serious in a serious world,” Wet Leg’s Hester Chambers said during an accompanying interview.
Earlier this month, Glass Animals announced an intimate London show at the Village Underground on August 25, to ‘re-launch’ 2020’s ‘Dreamland’. The band previewed cuts from the album at the same venue in early 2020, just before the pandemic hit. In a statement announcing the show, Bayley described it as an opportunity to carry out “some of the things that were in our original plan” surrounding the release of ‘Dreamland’.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé released seventh studio album ‘Renaissance’ today (July 29), after previewing it with lead single ‘Break My Soul’ last month. A fan who received a vinyl copy of the album shared an image from an accompanying booklet, in which Beyoncé describes the album as part of a “three act project” that was recorded “over three years during the pandemic”.
Meanwhile, Kelis has claimed her Neptunes-produced 2000 track ‘Get Along With You’ was sampled on ‘Renaissance’ track ‘Energy’ without her permission. “It’s not a collab it’s theft,” the singer has remarked.

Friday (May 26) saw Swift drop a new deluxe version of her 10th album ‘Midnights‘, titled ‘Midnights (Til Dawn Edition)’, featuring the Ice Spice remix of ‘Karma’ among other tracks.
The same night, the rapper joined Swift to close out the first of multiple nights at East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium for her ‘Eras’ tour.
In the official video for ‘Karma’, which dropped after the performance and was directed by Swift, she appears in a host of different locations including on a yellow brick road, trapped in an hourglass and inside a lightbulb.
Once Ice Spice joins the party, the pair row a boat across the sea.
Check out the video below.
Elsewhere on ‘Midnights (Til Dawn Edition)’, Swift also shared a re-recorded version of ‘Snow On The Beach’ featuring “more” Lana Del Rey.
Besides the Ice Spice and Del Rey tracks, the digital edition also features ‘Hits Different’, which was previously only available on the Target version of the album.
Fans attending the East Rutherford shows on Swift’s ‘Eras‘ US tour will be able to purchase a special edition CD which includes a never before heard ‘Midnights’ vault track called ‘You’re Losing Me’.
In a tweet on May 24 announcing the deluxe edition, Swift called Ice Spice a “brilliant artist”. “After getting to know her I can confirm: she is THE ONE to watch,” she added.
She went on: “In addition to Karma Ft Ice Spice… You asked for it, we listened: Lana and I went back into the studio specifically to record more Lana on Snow on the Beach. Love u Lana.”
Reviewing ‘Midnights’ upon release, NME said the album was “a shimmering return to pure pop”, adding that it “pivots away from her mellow lockdown creations and recent re-recording project, offering up brighter, future-facing sounds”.

The announcement of the tour comes not long after Glenn Danzig said his current tour in May of this year could likely be his last.
Danzig gave an interview with Revolver, saying he doesn’t see himself undertaking further runs such as this. “[It’s] not really much of a tour,” Danzig said of that stint. “It’s ten shows. I don’t think I’m going to tour anymore.
“I’ll maybe be down to do some one-offs. But I just don’t see myself getting on a tour bus anymore… I think I’m done.”
Danzig – having previously said that the “original” Misfits line-up weren’t “gonna do many more” shows – added elsewhere in the interview that he wouldn’t be opposed to more Misfits reunion gigs.
The line-up, comprising Danzig, Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, are due to appear at Chicago’s Riot Fest 2022 this September, where they will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their debut album ‘Walk Among Us’ by performing it in full. “We’ll see if there’s any stuff [after that],” Danzig said of continued Misfits activity. “There’s been talk.
