Parenthood fans might want to hang on to your feelings for this one. On August 28 on Instagram, in announcing the birth of her son, Mae Whitman revealed that her baby name choice is in honor of her TV brother/real life best friend, Miles Heizer. Sometimes on-screen families become like real family, and I think that’s beautiful.
Whitman’s post included a close-up shot of the baby’s feet, with a cheeky caption that began, “Not to be a Bieber about it but I too just gave birth to our son, Miles.” She continued, “From the moment we heard the first tiny sound out of his tiny piggy mouth we were besotted. He is the kindest, gentlest, smartest, funniest little beebee and he’s our best friend (pretty much exactly like his namesake Uncle Miles).”

Whitman and Heizer played siblings Amber and Drew on Parenthood, which ran for six seasons, and apparently immediately became best friends. Heizer, along with fellow Parenthood costar Lauren Graham, were even featured on Whitman’s IG post announcing the pregnancy. “Not to make a parenthood episode out of it or anything but!!! Mother’s Day looking a little different this year! 🤰🏼,” she wrote.
We knew Heizer and Whitman were close from their frequent appearances on each other’s social media (Heizer called Whitman, “the love of my life, the icon, the legend, the moment,” in a birthday tribute post in 2021, for example), plus the fact that they actually lived together for several years. “I envision wanting to live in a house next to him for my whole life and grow old down the street from him. I want our families to always be entwined,” Whitman said of Heizer in a Glamour interview from 2014.
Judging by Mae Whitman’s choice of baby name, it looks like that prediction came true.
