It’s happening: Kamala Harris’ VP pick is Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota. With mere months to go before the election, Harris has selected the man she hopes will replace her as vice president, according to multiple reports.

CNN reported the news on August 6, citing four sources familiar with Harris’ decision. However, the outlet notes, Walz has not yet received the official call from Harris. The news comes ahead of a Harris campaign event in Philadelphia, and two weeks before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where the Harris-Walz ticket will be confirmed.

Walz, 60, is a former public school teacher and second-term governor.

Harris met with three top contenders for the position—Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, and Governor Walz of Minnesota—in Washington on Sunday, August 4, per the New York Times.

Walz’s Republican counterpart, JD Vance, is currently serving as the junior senator from Ohio. He replaces former VP Mike Pence on the ticket below Trump after Trump and Pence had a public falling out following the January 6 riots.

As Kamala Harris’ VP pick, Tim Walz is expected to take part in a vice presidential debate against Vance at a later date.
