When Glamour deputy editor Anna Moeslein goes for a daily walk with her four-month-old twins, she often winds up at her local Starbucks for a bev and a snack. But earlier this month her routine was rocked when she tried the coffee chain’s newest food item: the Potato, Cheddar & Chive Bakes.

“I had cycled through the entire Starbucks menu when they unveiled the new Potato, Cheddar & Chive Bakes. One bite in, I was amazed,” Moeslein reports from maternity leave, adding that they were “way better than I expected or even needed them to be, and one of the lower-calorie, higher-protein options on the menu to boot.”

So what are the Potato, Cheddar & Chive Bakes, exactly? Described as “a comforting, high-protein breakfast on-the-go,” the offering combines cage-free eggs, diced potatoes, cheddar cheese, spinach, and a touch of chives. (And before you ask, no, this post isn’t sponcon. Bake-mania is totally organic, we swear).

As January slogged on, availability of the potato bites became touch and go. It seems that, like the Spinach, Feta & Egg White Wrap and the Sous Vide Egg Bites before it, the Potato, Cheddar & Chive Bakes have become the protein-packed breakfast of choice for Starbucks regulars.

“I ate them every day for almost a week, until the barista at my local told me they were sold out,” Moeslein says. “In the days that followed I tried three other Starbucks near me. Also sold out.”

In the weeks since, she’s had some success, but more often than not the potato bites are gone well before noon. “They better become a part of the permanent menu,” warns the mother of twins, “because clearly the people have spoken and the people want more cheesy, chive-y potatoes.”
