Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight in the hit Amazon Prime superhero series The Boys, is fighting back after facing bullying and criticism from Internet users and former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, over speculation that she has undergone plastic surgery.
After the actor posted some new photos and videos of herself to Instagram, commenters began to claim there has been change in the shape of her face and to her cheekbones.
But now, the controversy has become even bigger, because (for some reason) Kelly decided to offer up her point of view on the topic. On her podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show, the conservative journalist—who was fired from NBC in 2018—described her shock at seeing a recent photo of Moriarty.
“I thought it was a face generated by artificial intelligence, but apparently it’s real,” Kelly said, then saying, “I find it a sign of mental illness. It’s extremely upsetting. It discourages me enormously. I just really want to get into the heads of these young girls and say, ‘Please don’t do this.'”
Faced with the accusations, Erin Moriarty decided to speak out on her Instagram account, before deactivating it. She criticized the journalist’s practices, accusing her of comparing her recent photo with an old one taken 10 years earlier.
Moriarty explained that she had simply put on makeup. “I put on makeup that day, and it involves major contouring, and I remember leaving and feeling pretty…I saw the comments, scathing enough to turn my comments off.”
The actor said that Kelly’s comments on her podcast were becoming “harassment,” saying she is planning on leaving social media.
“Consider it deactivated,” she said of her Instagram account. “I won’t have access to it for an extended, if not permanent, hiatus. Shame on you Megyn Kelly.”
