Slowly ramping up to what will surely be an Oscar campaign for Hamnet, Jessie Buckley is proving herself to be a sharp dresser fond of unexpected looks. No headline-grabbing archival pulls or I Have Arrived on the A-List designer gowns. She’s embracing menswear and subtle trends, like the scarf tied around her waist at a recent Paris photo call. We’ve seen the trend cropping up here and there, but always in silk in the summer months. This Chanel outfit, however, is all knits. In a black top and pants with a bright red scarf secured around her hips, Buckley is giving…matador? She’s gonna fight a bull, and my money is not on the bull.
Okay, can we talk about what Jessie Buckley and her stylist Danielle Goldberg have been doing ahead of awards season? Because it’s been hit after hit, a parade of “if you know, you know” cool-girl looks that prove Buckley is a Serious Actor with taste to boot.
Funeral looks all the way down to emphasize how sad and serious the movie is and her connection to the character. I’m not even being snide! I like Hamnet! And Jessie Buckley is incredible in it and deserves every award, and all these looks work on her, and it’s nice to see someone dressed differently from everyone else!
That’s kind of the subtext of all her outfits: I Am the Actor From Cry Movie. If fashion is about telling the story, the story these fashions are telling is: I Was in a Very Sad Movie, Remember? And baby, I do.
