The fun of the 2024 Emmys red carpet is seeing your favorite TV stars all dressed up. Duh, right? But think about it: Movie stars are often in period costumes or sci-fi outfits, so seeing them in gowns actually makes them look…normal. With TV, it’s the reverse. On Ted Lasso, The Bear, Abbott Elementary and even Succession, regular, normal clothes are (more often than not) the name of the game. So it’s cool and exciting to see those actors out of character and in couture.

Remember when Euphoria star Zendaya got to step out of Rue’s baggy hoodies and into a stunning strapless black Valentino gown? Angela Bassett’s crystal-covered boombox-shaped purse? Hannah Waddingham channeling Glinda the Good Witch? Those were some of our favorite moments from the 2022 Emmy Awards red carpet which, yes, was the most recent Emmys. There was no 2023 ceremony, as it was postponed until now due to the WGA and SAG strikes.

Which means that this year, the Emmys are happening just a week after the 2024 Golden Globes, so it’ll be easy to see who’s doubling up—and who isn’t. Can Steven Yeun and Ali Wong pull double duty in the limited series category again? Will The Crown‘s final season best Succession‘s this time? Or could The White Lotus make a surprise impact? (Here are all the nominations.) Waiting with bated breath for the announcements, speeches, viral moments and reactions, we can agree that everyone’s a winner when it comes to fashion. What’s your favorite designer? Supporting designer? Designer in a comedy? Limited brand deal? Variety spon con?

None of which are real awards, of course, but they could be—but for now, there’s much to discuss. Check out every standout 2024 Emmys red-carpet look—updated live as the stars roll in—below.
